ARTS & CULTURE DOC FEST #4 (Sunday, February 17, 2019) FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
Venue: Cassidy Theater at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E Washington Street, Chicago. (Please enter on the Randolph Street entrance). All the documentaries will be shown in English or in Chinese with English subtitles. (18 prizes to be raffled off plus fortune cookies to be shared during and at the end of event.)
Doors Open at 1:30 PM. Event is to start at 2:00 PM.
Arts & Culture Doc Fest (ACDF) is an annual documentary festival curated by Sophia's Choice featuring some never-before-seen documentaries covering music, dance, art and history that are sourced directly from mainland China based cultural or media organization.
At the upcoming 4th edition of "Arts & Culture Docs Fest" Asian Pop-Up Cinema is proud to premiere select episodes from "This is China" documentary series recently produced by the China Broad View Cultural Communication Center (CBVCCC) in Beijing. “This is China” consists of six episodes that reflects the mainstream of development and progress of contemporary China, but also displays the essence of traditional Chinese culture with the objectives of cultural exchange and mutual learning.
Episode: Panda Land
Theme: Saving China’s Endangered Species Project
Content: Giant pandas are hailed as "China's ambassadors." They have lived on Earth for at least 8 million years and are thus called "living fossils." The efforts of protection and effect of salvation of giant pandas from Chinese government and the general public are observed across the world. At the Wolong Panda Reserve in Sichuan, more than 100 lively pandas and people, who are devoted their lifetime to pandas, live there.

Theme: Chinese classical aesthetics and elegant culture
Content: Peking Opera is China's "Guo Cui, or the quintessence of Chinese culture," including literature, music, dance, martial arts, fine arts, acrobatics, and other artistic categories. It is called the Chinese opera by the world. Its elegance and beauty impact people of different cultural backgrounds and ages in the world.
Episode: Rhythm Of Chongqing
Theme: Urban Planning and Modern Transportation
Content: Chongqing is an economic and financial center in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River in China. It is also a famous historical and cultural city. "Three-Dimensional Traffic" is a Chongqing's exterior symbol. Looking up, what strikes you is the smart light rail that passes between towering skyscrapers and mountains.
Episode: Shenzhen: City Of The Future
Theme: Chinese manufacturing and independent innovation
Content: Shenzhen was originally a small fishing village. It created the miracle of industrialization, urbanization, and modernization in the history of China’s reform and opening up, and it has become an international metropolis. This episode will show the charm of Shenzhen as a “City of Innovation” through the stories of three high-tech enterprises, including new energy vehicle company BYD and yeefeng parking robots.
