CHICAGO, IL (August 5, 2019) – Non-profit pan-Asian film organization Sophia’s Choice, presenter of Asian Pop-Up Cinema today announces Hong Kong actor Kenneth Tsang Kong as recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award in conjunction with his latest role as the shady politician Tsang Kwok-shan in the festival’s closing night film, The Attorney.

Join us for a one-of-a-kind salute to the legendary actor, whose acting career has spanned over 50 years. Film clips from his decade-spanning film career will be presented with the Award before Chicago premiere feature film The Attorney, located at the AMC River East 21 (322 E. Illinois Street) at 7:00pm on Thursday, October 10th. Tsang will also be part of the Q&A after the screening together with other guests attending the premiere: executive producer Cherrie Lau, scriptwriter Frances To and supporting actor Justin Cheung.

83-year-old Kenneth Tsang Kong is one of the most respected actors in Hong Kong. He’s appeared in over 217 movies with regular roles in major films since the 1960s. Tsang starred in detective films and classic kung fu movies with Hong Kong teen idols Connie Chan Po-chu and Josephine Siao. Tsang also appeared in a few Wong Fei-hung movies in the late 1960s. While mostly active in Hong Kong film productions, Tsang worked in Singaporean TV Chinese dramas during the 1990s, notably the 1995 epic The Teochew Family and The Unbeatables II in 1996. In the 80’s he participated in John Woo’s A Better Tomorrow trilogy and The Killer. Tsang made his Hollywood debut with Chow Yun Fat in The Replacement Killers. He also appeared in Rush Hour 2, Die Another Day, Memoirs of a Geisha, Anna and the King, and Stan Lee’s Lucky Man British crime drama television series produced by Carnival Films and POW! Entertainment. Tsang won the best Supporting Actor Award at the 2014 Hong Kong Film Awards for Overheard 3, co-directed by Alex Ma and Felix Chong.

The Attorney is a 2019 movie about politics and the law, money and murder all compellingly intertwined in this taut mystery/courtroom drama. The Attorney, a legal thriller rarely seen in Hong Kong cinema offers a pointed look at what people with power can get away with while the dispossessed take the blame. The film is in Cantonese with English subtitles and also stars award-winning Nina Paw, Liu Kai Chi, Patrick Tam and Justin Cheung. The movie is distributed by Golden Scene Co. Ltd., Hong Kong.
