Rebecca Pan - Lifetime Achievement Award
Asian Pop-Up Cinema honored Rebecca Pan with the Lifetime Achievement Award on April 20, 2024, at AMC NEWCITY 14 in Chicago. Isabel Wong, director of Pai Niang Niang: The Last Osmanthus Blossom, accepted the award on Pan’s behalf.
A singer and actress with a career spanning six decades, Pan was born in Shanghai, moved to Hong Kong in 1949, and began performing as a cabaret singer in 1957, with her ability to sing in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and French making her a rare hit with both local and international audiences. As an actress, she is perhaps best known internationally for her collaborations with director Wong Kar-wai, appearing in both Days of Being Wild and In the Mood for Love.
Pai Niang Niang: The Last Osmanthus Blossom, a documentary chronicling Pan's landmark 1972 production of Hong Kong's first Mandarin-language musical, was screened after the award presentation.
The Lifetime Achievement Award honors an extraordinary body of work and an enduring contribution to the art of cinema.
