MAKING WAVES MONTREAL RETURNS FOR A THIRD EDITION
FROM SEPTEMBER 18 TO 20 AT CINÉMA CINEPLEX FORUM AND VIP
Montreal, Tuesday August 5th - After two highly successful editions, MAKING WAVES MONTREAL is back for a third edition. From September 18 to 20, the best of Hong Kong's new cinema will be presented at the Cinéma Cineplex Forum and VIP. Numerous artists will be in town to showcase their films for the occasion.
Opening the 3rd edition is THE LAST DANCE: EXTENDED VERSION (破·地獄:加長版), director Anselm Chan’s critically acclaimed drama following Dominic (Dayo Wong), who takes over a coffin shop after losing his business to the pandemic. To make it in the funeral world, he must earn the trust of his stern and vehemently traditional co-owner, Master Man (legendary comedian and filmmaker Michael Hui), and uncover the deeper meaning behind funerals and farewell rituals. Lead Actress Michelle Wai, who has garnered multiple accolades including the most prestigious Best Actress Award at the 43rd Hong Kong Film Awards, is scheduled to attend in person for the opening night festivities.
“Michelle Wai shines in a career-defining performance playing Yuet, defying the traditions against women leading the sacred ceremonies. The Montreal audience is in for a special treat hearing her first-hand about her journey playing Yuet.”
– Sophia Wong Boccio, Executive Producer of Making Waves Montreal.
MAKING WAVES MONTREAL (MWM) is presented by the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society, in collaboration with Chicago Asian Pop-Up Cinema, sponsored by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Toronto.
