Asian Pop-Up Cinema held three fully pre-booked screenings in celebration of Lunar New Year as a lead-in for our season 18 festival.

THE MONK AND THE GUN, screened at the Gene Siskel Film Center, is a fable set in Bhutan directed by Pawo Choyning Dorji, whose first feature film in 2019 was nominated for Best International Feature Film.

100 YARDS, a stylish Martial Arts movie co-directed by  co-presented with the Chicago Film Office, was screened at the Chicago Cultural Center celebrating the Year of the Dragon. A live pre-show Lion Dance was performed by Master P.C. Leung & Team. We thank the generous support from the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Chicago for making this event possible.

PERFECT DAYS, directed by award-winning Wim Wenders, screened at AMC River East 21, is a nominee for Best International Feature Film in the upcoming 96th Academy Awards. The protagonist Hirayama, starring Koji Yakusho, is content with his life as a toilet cleaner in Tokyo.
