SYNOPSIS

ru is inspired by the story of the arrival of Kim Thúy (Tinh) in Quebec and Thúy’s award-winning novel. After a dangerous sea crossing and a stay in a Malaysian refugee camp, a young Vietnamese girl named Tinh and her family arrive in Quebec where they begin a new life. Thanks to the warm welcome from all, including their sponsor family, she slowly adapts to her new reality. Tinh will  overcome her shyness to learn a new language, discover a new culture and adjust to a new life in Quebec.

“I made myself a discreet observer, capturing the essence of the details of her prose, her vivid, sensory moments, and mostly the striking encounters that shaped her. RU is more than a journey between Saigon and Quebec. It is the awakening of an artist who is sensitive to the splendour of the world around her, its originality and its imperfections.” - CHARLES-OLIVIER MICHAUD, DIRECTOR
